Editor’s note
During the process of selecting our pieces for the Magazine Project, some of the members felt like they could revise their earlier projects a lot easier since many of us believed that our writing has improved from the beginning of the semester and were worth revisiting. In our first meeting as a group we talked about the pieces that could be useful and provide more information about our topics. The pieces that were not selected by the members of the group were the following pieces. Brandon's flash memoir was not included since he didn’t believe that it was his best work compared to the other projects and wasn’t magazine-worthy. Gelaye did not selected her information effect project because she didn’t feel it was her best work. She enjoyed the emotional affect of the other projects, as well as how they were linked together. Saige excluded the information effect project as well, because she added some information into the persuasion project (which is required )so she didn’t see the point of adding more information, when stories like the flash memoir, are just as effective. Cinthya did not include her flash memoir because she was thinking that she could provide more information with the other projects, like the information effect project and the profile. We think that we all learned so much from each other.
We all have different strengths and weaknesses, so putting us together really brought out the best in each member. Brandon learned about run-on sentences while Saige fixed a bit of her spelling. Gelaye learned to spice up the projects with media and imagery. Cinthya learned how to be a leader and did a great job according to the members of the team. Each group member chose a topic that related to them closely. We had the opportunity to write about this topics in different genres and express our deepest thoughts about it. The research we put into was personal and effective.
We think that we’ve all learned life lessons. Working in group may be hard sometimes. In our experience, working as a team has help us to obtain better results in our magazine project. “The Bruin Times” is an unique piece that projects issues, problems that our society face in daily basis. We shared our stories, our feelings and our writings hoping to create awareness to the world in where we live now. We believe that our magazine project has reached the main objective which is share our experience with writing, while transmitting our feelings about the the social issues that we chose at the beginning of the semester. We all worked really hard to create this project, we researched about every individual issue and how to make it better. We evaluated each other’s writing pieces, and performed the changes required to do to obtained the final result, which make us proud. The designed was done under careful choices and we believe that have been the right ones. Our magazine is organized by pieces, we also provided a small autobiography of each member of the group to introduce ourselves to our audience. Writing is a way for us to express what our eyes have seen throughout our life, is a way to share our deepest feelings. We hope you enjoy our work that we have prepare for you.
